Gen-X Class Rules

Gen-X is a relatively new class being introduced and is quickly becoming popular across the entire country as an attempt to keep the cost of having a competitive vehicle low and to get new racers started in the sport. Our Gen-x class at WSCD includes "PURE ( Mini-stock )" This is intended to be an enter level class and a beginner's class !!!!!!

A. Vehicle Description
  1. Any front engine, front wheel drive & rear wheel drive sub-compact factory produced, 3 & 4 cylinder, V-6.
  2. No all-wheel drive configurations allowed.
  3. No mid-engine or rear-engine vehicles allowed.
B. Safety

  1. Minimum 4-point roll cage must surround driver, and must be securely welded to car's subframe or frame.
  2. A minimum of 3 horizontal door bars, with at least two additional vertical supports, must be on the driver's side.
  3. 1¼-inch (inside diameter) black steel pipe may be used; no galvanized material or exhaust tubing is allowed. Standard roll cage tubing as used in other classes is STRONGLY recommended. Cage must be welded and gusseted at corners; no threaded connections, no brazing/soldering allowed. No inter-member welds allowed for splicing tubes.
  4. Halo bar and windshield bar required for all cars; no exceptions.
  5. Stock high-backed seats may be used. Aluminum racing-type seats are STRONGLY recommended.
  6. All seats must be properly mounted to a secure seat subframe that is welded to roll cage.
  7. Stock-type seats must have added head protection securely fastened to roll cage.
  8. Minimum 5-point racing type harnesses required. All belts including anti-submarine belt must be mounted to seat subframe that is welded to cage, or to the cage itself.
  9. Stock-type fuel tanks may be used, but must be mounted safely away from the exterior of the vehicle, and the driver's compartment must be shielded from possible flames or leakage of gasoline by minimum 18-gauge steel rear firewall.
  10. Any electrical fuel pump-equipped vehicle must have a rollover safety switch installed that will disconnect current to the pump in event of rollover.
C. Engine

  1. Engine must be in-line, 3 & 4-cylinder, or V-6 with all original specifications for the car used, and SHALL be absolutely O.E.M. "BONE" stock.
  2. Maximum displacement 3,000 cubic centimeters.
  3. Carburetor may be changed within make of vehicle; air cleaner may be replaced and emissions control system may be removed. Exhaust system aft of stock manifold may be changed.
  4. The only after-market parts allowed are EXACT replicas of O.E.M parts replaced.
  5. The following are expressly forbidden, even if they were available from the factory for the vehicle/engine combination: dual overhead camshafts, turbochargers, or other forced induction systems.
  6. Pump gasoline only may be used.
  7. Stock ignitions, engine control modules, and computers if so equipped originally by the manufacturer must be retained in functional operation and be unmodified.
  8. Maximum compression at cranking speed is 1
  9. pounds per square inch unless the factory service manual for the specific car and engine clearly states a higher number. The racer must provide such manual for proof to the Director of Competition's satisfaction at the time of initial technical inspection before being allowed to compete.
  10. Engines must idle smoothly at factory-specified idle speed (or 800 rpm if factory specification is not known).
  11. Cars are subject to additional inspection at any time, and components may need to be removed to verify compliance with rules.
D. Body and Suspension
  1. Vehicle must appear stock.
  2. Doors may be gutted or skinned to allow clearance for roll cage.
  3. All interior trim, glass, and flammable materials must be removed. Winds shield area must be covered with wire mesh (e.g.) ½ " sq. screen. Or (
  4. 1/4 " round bars vertical in front of driver, not to exceed spacing. Securely attached at top and bottom of windshield roll bar and halo bar.
  5. Body must be O.E.M. type and not reinforced.
  6. Stock suspension may be reinforced but must remain in original mounting position.
  7. Stock frame or unit body/subframes may be reinforced between front and rear suspension.
  8. Alignment may be changed, but components may not be modified.
  9. No racing shocks are allowed; must be stock.
  10. Open differential only. No locker's
  11. No ballast allowed.
  12. Operating AM/FM radio may be required in vehicle at loud level during the Races (at spectators' discretion following show-of-hands vote to be conducted by flagger).
E. Tires and Wheels

  1. Stock wheels, aluminum or steel, not racing wheels.
  2. Tires must be passenger-car types, with tread wear rating visible from the outside. Wear rating must be 2
  3. or greater, and is subject to durometer reading.
  4. Maximum tread width is 7-inches measured across the top of tire.
  5. No retreads. No grooving, no sipping no studs.
  6. Tires must not extend outside bodyline when viewed from behind car.
