Winnemucca, NV.. Battle Mountain star Dave Wearin took command of the WSCD Pro Stock feature race Friday night at Winnemucca Regional Raceway as he was victorious for the second straight time on the one-third mile oval. The six car field saw Lee Bosch led the first several laps before he drifted a little high in turn two as Wearin was Johnny-on-the-spot when he took the lead immediately.Bosch recovered but Wearin was already down the back chute and was never headed.Following the two leaders to the stripe were Jerry Mock and Dale Schofield who ran the same car in two different divisions.Point leader Shawn LaRocque ruined a brand new engine but still picked up one point on his nearest competitor Travis Roysdon, who finished one spot behind LaRocque.Bosch won the heat race earlier, but Wearin had too much for him in the feature.Wearin has won feature races this season at Battle Mountain and Elko’s Summit Raceway, a rare event.

In the Dwarf Car division, former winner Jeremy McKinnon was the early leader in the feature event for the diminutive guys, but the winner two weeks ago Rodney Sweet took advantage of seat time and was able to pass him for the lead.Point leader Chris Forgnone tried to pass Sweet several times but the veteran driver saw smooth, especially in turn two, where Forgnone drifted high several times in the race letting Sweet get a big lead.Sweet and Dave Jenkins won the heat races but that great match-up in the feature never materialized. During the race, the car of Terry Gabiola rolled his car in turn three but was unhurt.Although Sweet won the feature in the Dwarfs two times in a row, he is still trying to become the first driver to win in IMCA competition the same season as winning in the Dwarfs. With his victory, Sweet has now won two-in-a-row here.

The Mini Mod feature went a long way to decide what driver will be the track championship at the end of the season.Silver Springs driver Chris Oberman was on top of his game Friday night as the point leader at Lovelock Speedway took the lead from local lead foot Tim Garner at the halfway mark in the feature and held off former track titleholder Kenny Knight for the victory.Knight kept pressure on Oberman but the laps ran out.Garner, involved in a very tight point race for the championship, was able to add two points over second place driver Dominick DeGrazia.Only two races remain in the 2008 race season with Garner leading the veteran by six markers.

Another close point race is in the IMCA Modifieds division as local star Cory Sample was four points behind leader Ward Amberson going into Friday night. Going in the race Friday Amberson was also the state of Nevada point leader.Sample was involved in a first lap accident in the first turn when front row starter Rob Creamer spun out. After that, Sample’s car handling was not the same and he retired early.Chico, CA ace Dustin Jenks took complete advantage of a gift front row start and took the most out of it.Previously Jenks was a regular runner at Silver Dollar Speedway in Chico but now runs in the Silver state and is the point leader at Fallon. Defending state of Nevada champion Chad Farstveet from Winnemucca had his car together and finished a close second to Jenks. For the second time in as many times, the anticipated match-up between Jenks and former three time IMCA Western Region champion Dan Fitzgerald from Las Vegas did not occur, as Jenks did not encounter any cars other than back markers.Fitzgerald, currently the Western Region leader, was the 2006 Winnemucca Regional Raceway champion.Finishing behind Jenks, Farstveet and Fitzgerald, Sweet was fourth and former Battle Mountain champion Randy Artzwas in the fifth spot.Point leaders Amberson and Sample shared wins in the two heat races.

In the Pure Stock events, Dale Schofield was ready to win another feature especially with only two other cars were in the starting field. The dry slick track caused several spin-outs during the course of the evening, but those in this division were doom and gloom.Shaylin Sample is the current point leader and had a chance to get her first feature victory, but the cards were not in her favor and neither were the tires. Both Sample and Schofield were the recipients of yellow flags, two of them by number, just enough to park their cars for the night. With only three cars entered in the contest, it turned into no contest. At the time of the final yellow flag, rookie Butch Seals was the leader. As the yellow came out, so did the checkered flag for the young man.For the second time this season a race in this division, a driver won an event by being the only one on the racetrack. Schofield has to wait until August 29 to have a chance to win number seven.
