In the year 2002, an organization was formed called the
Winnemucca Regional Racing Association “W.R.R.A.”
A cumulative group, made up of race drivers, motocross
riders, ATV enthusiasts, sand-drag racers and drag race
enthusiasts. With the help of the property owner Bill Avery
and local businesses, we started putting a plan together to
build a motorsports complex.
Our survey team included James Delaney, Rick Howard, Ken
Howard, Dennis Bennett, Ken Tangreen, Jared Tangreen, Bryan
Tangreen, Nick Keller, and Ron Warrick. Together we put the
stakes in the ground for the oval track layout, which got
the ball rolling!! On August 8th, 2002 the
excavation for the oval track was commencing, more equipment
was donated by local construction companies, Curtis
Machinery, AMIS Construction, BJ Excavating, Newmont Gold
Corporation, Sunrise Plumping, Gama Electric, Hunewill
Construction, Maga Trucking, and T.G. Sheppard. It was an
outstanding performance done by all who volunteered their
time, equipment, and lots of $$$$$!!!!!
Thank You, Thank You, Thank You.
That was just the beginning, we now had to put in the front
wall, the post to hang the safety catch fence on, the track
lighting, dig the trench for the underground burial cable,
put up light posts, hang the lights, run the wiring, build a
flag stand, and set tire barriers.
Our first four races were run on Sundays as we did not have
the track lighting finished. In June the lights were turned
on, and that’s when we started Friday night races. That was
our first season, and this type of work continues every
year. We want to make this YOUR motorsports complex in
Northern Nevada.
We ask you to come and enjoy the best entertainment your
money can buy!
See you at the races!
